The History of Jazz: The Big Band Years

At the dawn of the 1930s Jazz was moving on apace with big bands becoming the rule rather than the exception, particularly in ballrooms with dancers eager to forget the financial woes of the period. White musicians were also beginning to catch up with the popularity of the black musicians who had dominated the previous two decades, with the young Benny Goodman in the vanguard. The music which they played was known as 'Swing' and it developed from around 1935 with the bands featured on these recordings. The tracks are:
